The Ten Authentic Recitations Covered
Each Qira’at is named after the master Imam of recitation and features two primary narrators (Rawis).
Nafi’ al-Madani
The primary recitation of Medina. Renowned for its melodic fluidity and widely practiced across North and West Africa.
Ibn Kathir al-Makki
The recitation of Mecca. Features distinct rules for pronoun extensions (Silah) and soft consonant transitions.
Abu ‘Amr al-Basri
The recitation of Basra. Famous for major merging (Idgham Kabir) and Imalah (vowel leaning) techniques.
Ibn ‘Amir al-Shami
The recitation of Levant/Syria. Preserves unique classical Arabic grammatical structures and vocal elongation.
‘Asim al-Kufi
The most widely recited Qira’ah globally today. Includes Hafs, which is the international standard recitation.
Hamzah al-Kufi
Known for distinct pauses on Hamzah (Sakt) and pronounced Imalah. Requires rigorous breath control.
Al-Kisa’i al-Kufi

Abu Ja’far al-Madani
